What is an Crossbite?

Crossbite | Fruge Orthodontics

A cross-bite is simply a misalignment between the top and bottom teeth.

The condition can be caused by issues with the jaw or teeth alignment, or a combination of both. It can also affect both the back and front teeth, although commonly thought of as a front-teeth or overbite condition. When left untreated it can lead to further problems such as breathing issues which can create discomfort and distress for the patient.

Treatments

Baton Rouge patients who suffer from crossbite may be wondering what the most effective treatment is to correct this condition. Fortunately, the team at Frugé Orthodontics has the skill and experience necessary to correct this problem. Surgery, braces, retainers, and other methods such as Invisalign can be used, depending on the severity of the situation.

A severe case may require surgery to adjust the jaw and allow for proper teeth alignment. Typically, a crossbite of the back teeth, or a posterior malocclusion, is more complicated and requires more rigorous treatment. Our staff can review your case and determine the best course of action to effectively correct your cross-bite in the shortest possible amount of time.

In order to widen the jaw and allow the teeth to have space they need to form a proper alignment, braces, Invisalign, or retainers are commonly used. Every situation is different, and Dr. Frugé will create a custom plan of treatment for each and every patient. You can rest assured that your treatment will be tailor-made to meet your needs, and ongoing monitoring will ensure that everything is on the right track!
