Taking care of your retainer
Taking care of your retainer is not difficult to do! Take a look at these common-sense tips, and make sure that you keep your device in tip-top shape.
1. Follow the Doctor's Instructions - wear your retainer as advised by the team at Frugé Orthodontics. It's important to wear your device as often as advised, and remember that it won't work unless you wear it! When inserting and removing your retainer, be sure to do so carefully to avoid any damage to your device.
2. Keep it Clean - contrary to popular belief, you do not need to use toothpaste when brushing your retainer. Just gently brush the device with water after wearing and before putting back into your mouth. In addition to your every day cleanings, it's also helpful to soak your retainer with a cleaning solution on a regular basis.
3. Don't Let Your Retainer Get Too Hot - the epoxy that is used in your retainer can melt or become disfigured if it is exposed to extreme heat. Don't leave your device in direct sunlight, such as on a windowsill, or in a hot closed, car. If your retainer is misshaped or altered in any way, it won't work at its optimal level.
Your retainer is custom made to fit your mouth exactly. Take good care of it, and your teeth will be looking great in no time!
