When to Whiten? That is the Question.

Tooth whitening techniques are used to help remove stains and discoloration. While your genes do play a dominant role in the color of your teeth there are outside factors that can cause discoloration including poor hygiene, tobacco use, and drinking dark liquids such as coffee or tea.

Many patients ask us about whitening their teeth during treatment. The best advice we can give you is: Wait until your treatment is complete. Here’s why…

During treatment, your teeth are continuously moving and shifting. If you whiten during treatment, you might miss areas that will soon be visible once your teeth are in their final position. When you have completed treatment, your teeth all have the maximum surface area visible. This will give you optimal results.

As always, we recommend consulting a dental professional before whitening.
