When is the best time to get braces?

best time to get braces

There is no designated age for getting braces, being suitable for younger and older people. However, there are key issues to consider when getting braces at various ages.

Below 10 Years
During this time, a child has milk teeth. It is recommended that you wait for the permanent teeth to appear to begin an orthodontic plan. This does not mean that you can delay getting the treatment for your 7 or 8-year-old child.

As long as the child has adult teeth and depending on their dental health issues, it can still be appropriate to begin the treatment at a young age. Treatment at this age mostly involves addressing the skeletal and structural problems.

However, braces for children below the age of six years are not common.

10-14 years
The best time to get braces is when you are between 10 and 14 years. The reason why it is best recommended for 10 to 14 years is that at this age, most of the milk teeth have been eliminated. The jaw is stable and ready for long-term dental treatment, including getting braces.

The mouth and head of a 10 to 14-year-old child are continuing to develop and grow. This makes it simpler to apply teeth alignment. Besides, during this period, the child is ready or old enough to take care of themselves. They can take care of the braces for a faster healing process.

Advanced ages
You can get braces at advanced ages. However, the body, especially the mouth and head, is no longer growing. As a result, you may experience a less effective treatment. It is important that you discuss the need for braces with a professional at very advanced ages. An orthodontist can advise whether it would be the best solution for your teeth problems.
